Introduction

Mistral AI has emerged as a significant player in the artificial intelligence landscape, offering powerful Large Language Models (LLMs).  "La Plateforme": This is Mistral AI's official, cloud-based Application Programming Interface (API) service. It offers managed access to a range of Mistral models on a pay-as-you-go basis, simplifying integration and deployment. Interaction occurs via standard API calls to Mistral's servers. The Mistral API key is a critical component for interacting between the jtel Portal with the Mistral AI services.

Purpose and Function:

Mistral AI API key is intended for accessing the online platform, 'La Plateforme'. This key acts as a credential to access our requests to Mistral AI's servers. In summary the key fulfills several essential roles within the Mistral API "La Plateforme" ecosystem:

  • Authentication
  • Authorization
  • Usage Tracking

The API key serves as a unique, confidential credential provided by Mistral AI upon account setup and activation. Its primary function is to authenticate and authorize requests made to the Mistral AI API endpoints hosted on La Plateforme. It acts as the digital "password" confirming the identity and permissions of the application or user making the request to the Mistral AI online service and it monitors the number of requests and tokens processed, which is essential for enforcing rate limits and calculating billing based on the pay-as-you-go model.

Note: It might be helpfull to keep the language for the Mistral user portal interface in English. This simplifies the communication. The User Interface language does not have an impact on the actual language used within the Mistral LLM.
Note: The model we like to use is the (April  2025) Mistral Large, their top-tier reasoning model for high-complexity tasks.

1st step - API keys:

https://console.mistral.ai/api-keys

You must have a valid Mistral AI account with a valid payment method set up.  You will need to generate a Mistral AI Key and provide it to jtel via secure transmission for the jtel API integration.
Further documentation is found in: "Manage your API keys for your current organization" - https://docs.mistral.ai/getting-started/quickstart/#account-setup

It is not necessary to set up domain ownership and domain verification for this first step. However, it is highly recommended that you do so before going live.

In order to differentiate between different API use cases and associated keys, it is suggested that a meaningful key name such as "jtel Live Agent" is provided.

You will be asked to set an automatic expiry date for your key. The maximum period appears to be 12 months.

Please copy the key and send it to jtel in a secure way (to service@jtel.de).
